Are Blendtec Blenders Loud? (and how to quiet them)

There is no denying the fact that Blendtec makes some of the best blenders available on the market. However, with a powerful motor, you often get a lot of noise. So are Blendtec blenders loud?

Blendtec blenders are known for their powerful motors, which spin the blades at incredibly high speeds to create smoothies and hot soup. This high speed causes the blender to be louder than average, but it is necessary to achieve superior results.

The loudest Blendtec blender is 106 decibels which is almost as loud as a leaf blower!

Now, there are ways you can still enjoy your Blendtec blender without losing your hearing. And there are also other blender options available that may be quieter. Let’s take a closer look.

Is a Blendtec blender louder than others?

As a general rule, Blendtec blenders are a noisy blender brand that tend to be at least 5 dB louder than comparable models from other brands such as Ninja blender or some of the Vitamix models. But the motor horsepower varies depending on which model of Blendtec is purchased.

Most Blendtec blenders have an average of 3.0 to 3.5 peak horsepower in their motors.

Now, just because these blenders can blend some of these thicker concoctions, there are also a few things that blenders cannot do.

As explained in a recent article, even with a powerful motor, like the one on the Blendtec blenders, you would need a food processor to:

  • Grind nuts
  • Mince garlic
  • Dice onions
  • Chop fresh herbs, and
  • Make bread dough

At the same time, for just about everything else you would use a food processor for, you can use a Blendtec blender instead. It may even be a little quieter in your kitchen if you use a Blendtec and chopper knives rather than a food processor.

Of course, if you had to take my recommendation, I would say both a good blender and a food processor are essential small appliances for your home.

If you notice over time that a loud noise from your Blendtec blender is getting worse, it may have more to do with the jar than the motor itself.

Try replacing the jar as the gasket may have worn out. Also, the motor must ideally last you as long as the 8-year Blendtec warranty, perhaps even longer.

Which is quieter Blendtec or Vitamix?

When comparing 2 models with the same level of power, the Blendtec blender is louder than the Vitamix. However, both also have models with an available sound shield to significantly reduce the volume.

The average blender noise level is about 88 decibels from two feet away.

In comparison, that’s about the same sound level as a jackhammer from 60 feet away. Most people just deal with the noise of a blender because they only use it for short spurts in the day.

When comparing some of the major brand models, the Blendtec Total Blender is one of the loudest (94.4 dB), registering the highest decibel output.

The Vitamix 5200 (90.1 dB) and Vitamix Professional Series 750 (87.5 dB) follow close behind at slightly quieter levels.

How do I make my Blendtec blender quieter?

A few tricks can help you make your Blendtec blender quieter, such as:

  • Move the blender further away from the walls
  • Place some towels under and/or over the blender to absorb noisy vibrations
  • Purchase a noise dome that will cut the noise to a large degree
  • Use a silicone mat under the blender to absorb sound

As loud as Blendtec blenders are, you may start to lose hope. You may be wishing for a way to make your favorite blender a little quieter.

Thankfully, there are a few tips and tricks you can try to make your home a little more quiet and peaceful when blending up your favorite treats. Here’s a little more detail on what I mentioned above.

  1. Move it away from the wall

Sound bounces off the walls. Moving your blender away from the wall will allow the sound to escape into the room rather than ricocheting off the walls. Even better is to also make sure it’s not under a cabinet that can further resonate the sound.

This will definitely help make it a little quieter.

  1. Put it on something to dampen the sound

Try placing your blender on top of a dish towel(s) or a silicone mat. Since most of the noise comes from the motor, which is in the base of the blender, you can cut down on some of the noise as the towel absorbs the sound.

You can also wrap the base in 1 or more towels.

  1. Purchase a shield

There are sealed sound enclosures you can buy that completely encloses your blender, kind of like the ones you may see at Starbucks. It’s not the perfect solution and can be a bit pricey to purchase, but it can still help cut down on some of the noise.

If waking your family up is your concern, there are some things you can wait to blend later in the day or the night before you need them.

This may not necessarily work for your morning smoothie.

However, if you are making nut milk, soups, hummus, ice cream, or anything else that doesn’t need to be consumed right away, just change your blending time, so you don’t wake anyone up.

What is the quietest blender on a budget?

What is the best Blendtec blender to get?

The best Blendtec blender is the Blendtec Total Classic Blender. It’s a great balance between price, noise level, power, speed, and size.

It is a little more than the Hamilton Beach budget blender we looked at previously, but it still shouldn’t break the bank.

What is the world’s quietest blender?

The average decibel level of a traditional blender is around 90 dB, which is quite loud and can be disruptive in some households.

The world’s quietest blender is the Vitamix Quiet One Blender has a decibel level of only 64 dB, making it the quietest blender available. 

This makes it ideal for those who want to make smoothies, crushing ice cubes, or other blended drinks without disturbing others in their home.

But another option for those looking for a quieter blender is the Blendtec Stealth 885 Blender; the world’s quietest professional blender. The decibels range between 70-80 depending on the speed.

This is a newer model that replaced the 875.
