Are Blendtec Blenders Loud? (and how to quiet them)

There is no denying the fact that Blendtec makes some of the best blenders available on the market. However, with a powerful motor, you often get a lot of noise. So are Blendtec Blenders loud?

Yes. Blendtec blenders tend to be very loud, but not significantly louder than other blenders. It also depends on the model you have and whether or not it has a sound shield. The volume is generated from the large motor and fast-moving blades, but these are essential for smoother blending.

Now, there are ways you can still enjoy your Blendtec blender without losing your hearing. And there are also other blender options available that may be quieter. Let’s take a closer look.

I will also let you know the best model of Blendtec blenders. Just keep reading!

Is a Blendtec blender louder than others?

No. Blendtec blenders are not any louder than blenders that use a motor with a horsepower of 3 to 3.5. So any blender with the speed and power of a Blendtec will also be just as loud.

Most Blendtec blenders have an average of 3.0 to 3.5 horsepower in their motors.

Now, just because these blenders can blend some of these thicker concoctions, there are also few things that blenders cannot do.

As explained in a recent article, even with a powerful motor, like the one on the Blendtec blenders, you would need a food processor to:

  • Grind nuts
  • Mince garlic
  • Dice onions
  • Chop fresh herbs, and
  • Make bread dough

At the same time, for just about everything else you would use a food processor for, you can use a Blendtec blender instead. It may even be a little quieter in your kitchen if you use a Blendtec and chopper knives rather than a food processor.

Of course, if you had to take my recommendation, I would say both a good blender and a food processor are essential small appliances for your home.

You can read my full list of recommendations in this recent article. Just click on the link to read it on my website.

If you notice over time that your Blendtec blender is getting louder, it may have more to do with the jar than the motor itself.

Try replacing the jar as the gasket may have worn out. Also, the motor must ideally last you as long as the 8-year Blendtec warranty, perhaps even longer.

Which is quieter Blendtec or Vitamix?

Both Blendtec and Vitamix have louder and quieter models of their blenders. However, when comparing 2 with the same level of power, the Blendtec is louder than the Vitamix. However, both also have models with an available sound shield to significantly reduce the volume.

The average blender noise level is about 88 decibels from two feet away.

In comparison, that’s about the same noise level as a jackhammer from 60 feet away. Most people just deal with the noise of a blender because they only use it for short spurts in the day.

When comparing some of the major brand models, the Blendtec Total Blender is one of the loudest (94.4 dB), registering the highest decibel output.

The Vitamix 5200 (90.1 dB) and Vitamix Professional Series 750 (87.5 dB) follow close behind at slightly quieter levels.

The quieter models of both brands – the Blendtec Professional 800 (67 dB) and Vitamix Quiet One (64 dB) – each come with a sound shield that helps cut down on the sound.

The best part about these blenders is that you do not lose any horsepower; meaningless sound does not equal less power. They are not the low-price leaders. But they do have excellent reviews and are what you want when you use a blender daily and can’t take the noise!

How do I make my Blendtec blender quieter?

A few tricks can help you make your Blendtec blender quieter. First, move it further away from the walls. Then place some towels under the blender to absorb noisy vibrations. You can also purchase a noise dome that will cut the noise to a large degree.

With as loud as Blendtec blenders are, you may start to lose hope. You may be wishing for a way to make your favorite blender a little quieter.

Thankfully, there are a few tips and tricks you can try to make your home a little more quiet and peaceful when blending up your favorite treats. Here’s a little more detail on what I mentioned above.

  1. Move it away from the wall

Sound bounces off the walls. Moving your blender away from the wall will allow the sound to escape into the room rather than ricochet off the walls. Even better is to also make sure it’s not under a cabinet which can further resonate the sound.

This will definitely help make it a little quieter.

  1. Put it on something to dampen the sound

Try placing your blender on top of a dish towel(s) or a silicone mat. Since most of the noise comes from the motor, which is in the base of the blender, you can cut down on some of the noise as the towel absorbs the sound.

You can also wrap the base in 1 or more towels.

  1. Purchase a shield

There are shields you can buy that completely encloses your blender, kind of like the ones you may see at Starbucks. It’s not the perfect solution and can be a bit pricey to purchase, but it can still help cut down on some of the noise.

If waking your family up is your concern, there are some things you can wait to blend later in the day or the night before you need them.

This may not necessarily work for your breakfast smoothie.

However, if you are making nut milk, soups, hummus, ice cream, or anything else that doesn’t need to be consumed right away, just change your blending time, so you don’t wake anyone up.

What is the quietest blender on a budget?

Finding a quiet blender on a budget can be very difficult, especially when you are looking for quality. Thankfully, the 1500 watt Hamilton Beach Quiet Shield Blender comes in at 67 decibels of sound, considerably quieter compared to the average household blender.

Both the Vitamix Quiet One and Blendtec Professional 800 are very expensive.

Though you may look at your purchase as an investment in a product that will last, you may also want to know if there is a more affordable option available.

However, the Hamilton Beach Quiet Shield Blender blends quite smoothly and has an infinite speed control ranging from 3,000 to 18,000 RPM. Just click that link to see the current price on Amazon.

It has hundreds of near-perfect reviews, is an Amazon’s Choice product, and comes with free shipping from Amazon, of course.

It also comes with a removable sound shield, just like the professional models, which also helps to dampen the sound when in use.

But, with this blender, you will, of course, sacrifice some of the high-end features that you would typically find in a Vitamix or a Blendtec.

The horsepower isn’t as high, and the jar is a bit smaller.

What is the best Blendtec blender to get?

The best Blendtec blender is the Blendtec Total Classic Blender. It’s a great balance between price, noise level, power, speed, and size.

It is a little more than the Hamilton Beach budget blender we looked at previously, but it still shouldn’t break the bank.

The affordable Blendtec Total Classic Blender (click to see the current price on Amazon) offers some of the best features, including:

  • 6 pre-programmed cycles
  • 10-speed manual control
  • 75-ounce volume jar
  • 32-ounce blending capacity
  • 80% thicker blade

One of the really interesting and unique features of this blender is the fact that it can warm your food. You can enjoy soups and warm drinks in 6 minutes or less as the blades warm your food through friction.

It’s also an Amazon’s Choice product with over 2,000 outstanding reviews. So you know this is a quality product.

These blenders are made to last. With an 8-year warranty, you can rest assured that it is covered.

Keep in mind that this blender is still considerably loud, though. But if you are simply looking for the best blender by Blendtec, the Total blender is the way to go.

So did I answer your question – are Blendtec Blenders loud?

Hopefully, now you know everything about whether Blendtec blenders are loud.

And though they can be very loud, there are ways you can dampen the sound so you can still enjoy using your blender for everything you like. They make some of the best and smoothest soups, hummus, smoothies, and nut milk thanks to their powerful motors and blades.

You can also choose a different Blendtec model, like the Professional 800, that is quite a bit quieter than the Total blender model. Or you can even choose another brand altogether. The choice is yours!
