Delicious Pork Chops with Apples

This recipe features pork chops seared to perfection and then simmered with sliced apples and onions in a savory sauce. The cooking process takes about 30 minutes and serves 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 4 bone-in pork chops (about 1 inch thick)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium apples, cored and sliced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the Pork Chops: Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Sear the Pork Chops: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the pork chops and sear for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the chops from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté Onions and Apples: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and apples. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they begin to soften.
  4. Make the Sauce: Stir in the chicken broth, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Return Pork Chops: Place the seared pork chops back into the skillet, spooning some of the sauce over them. Cover and cook for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley if desired, and serve the pork chops with the apple mixture spooned over the top.
