Easy Popcorn Shrimp Recipe

These popcorn shrimp are made with fresh shrimp coated in a light and crispy batter, then fried to perfection. The recipe serves about 4 people and pairs well with dipping sauces like cocktail sauce or tartar sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Dipping sauce of choice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Set Up Breading Station: In one bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. In a second bowl, place the beaten eggs. In a third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
  3. Bread the Shrimp: Dip each shrimp first in the flour mixture, then in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Heat Oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the Shrimp: Carefully add the breaded shrimp in batches to the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve: Serve the crispy popcorn shrimp hot with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.
