How to make ice cream without an ice cream maker
There are several simple methods to make ice cream at home without a machine:
Freezer Bag Method
Mix your ice cream base in a quart-sized ziplock bag and seal tightly. Place that bag inside a gallon-sized bag filled with ice and rock salt. Shake vigorously for 15-20 minutes until it thickens.
Mason Jar Method
Pour your mixture into a mason jar, filling it only halfway. Seal tightly and shake for 2-3 minutes. Freeze for 45 minutes, then remove and shake again. Repeat this freeze-and-shake process 3-4 times until creamy.
Whipped Cream Base
Whip heavy cream to soft peaks, then fold in sweetened condensed milk and your desired flavors. Freeze for 6 hours, stirring every hour for the first 3 hours to prevent ice crystals.
Fork Method
Freeze your mixture in a shallow pan for 45 minutes. Use a fork to scrape and break up ice crystals, then return to freezer. Repeat this scraping process every 30-45 minutes for 3-4 hours.
