Easy Yakitori Recipe

This grilled chicken is marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar, then skewered and grilled to perfection. The cooking time is approximately 20 minutes, and it serves 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken thighs, boneless and skinless, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sake (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sake (if using), and sesame oil until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and let them sit for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Skewer the Chicken: Thread the marinated chicken and green onion pieces onto the soaked skewers.
  4. Preheat the Grill: Heat the grill to medium-high heat.
  5. Grill the Skewers: Place the skewers on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, brushing with leftover marinade, until the chicken is cooked through and has nice grill marks.
  6. Serve: Remove from the grill and serve hot with rice or your choice of sides.
