Easy Chirashi Sushi Bowl Recipe

This chirashi sushi bowl consists of seasoned sushi rice topped with an assortment of fresh fish, vegetables, and garnishes. The preparation time is about 30 minutes, and it serves 2-4 people depending on portion size.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces sashimi-grade fish (such as salmon, tuna, or shrimp)
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 small carrot, julienned
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons pickled ginger
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Nori sheets, cut into strips for garnish
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the Rice: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. Cook the Rice: In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Cook according to the rice cooker’s instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 18-20 minutes until water is absorbed.
  3. Season the Rice: In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Let it cool to room temperature.
  4. Prepare the Toppings: While the rice cools, slice the sashimi-grade fish, cucumber, carrot, and avocado.
  5. Assemble the Bowl: Divide the sushi rice among serving bowls. Arrange the sliced fish, cucumber, carrot, avocado, and pickled ginger on top of the rice.
  6. Garnish: Sprinkle sesame seeds, nori strips, and chopped green onions over the top. Serve immediately.
