This recipe combines tender chicken with a crispy coating, served alongside a flavorful Tonkatsu sauce that adds a delicious tangy sweetness.
The preparation is simple and perfect for a weeknight dinner. You can serve it with rice and shredded cabbage for a complete meal.
Easy Chicken Katsu Recipe
This Chicken Katsu recipe yields crispy, golden-brown cutlets that are juicy on the inside. The dish takes about 30 minutes to prepare and serves 4 people.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Tonkatsu sauce for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound to an even thickness using a meat mallet.
- Season: Season both sides of the chicken with salt and pepper.
- Dredge: Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip in egg, and coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- Fry the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken cutlets and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Drain: Remove the chicken from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve: Slice the chicken katsu into strips and serve with Tonkatsu sauce drizzled on top or on the side.
