Easy Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks Recipe
These breadsticks are made from a simple dough enriched with garlic and cheese, baked until golden brown. The recipe takes about 30 minutes from start to finish and yields approximately 12 breadsticks.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
- Melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Make Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms, adding more flour as needed.
- Knead: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape Breadsticks: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Cut into strips for breadsticks.
- Add Toppings: Place the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle minced garlic, mozzarella, Parmesan, and Italian herbs if using.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
